My 8th Grade Memories
I have fund memories of eighth grade! I remember those four snow days in January of 2014! They ended up having the school year end on June 13 by turning a half-day into a full day and a day off into a full day of school. Despite that, I still graduated from eighth grade on June 10, 2014 as originally scheduled!
- My schedule consisted of homeroom, a math class for first period, science for second period, gym for third period, related arts for fourth period, social studies for fifth period, lunch for sixth period, Read 180 for the next two periods, and lastly, A.S. for ninth period!
- I ended up seeing two speech staff members during 3rd, 4th, and 9th periods during two of those days in the week while the periods rotated each week.
- I thought the math class I did was really easy. One time, I didn't know what LAPS was, but later on, I got the hang of it. The schoolwork and the homework in the class were pretty easy for me.
- When I look back to social studies class, I think it of it being unnecessary to go over what happened on the day in both the past and present day, along with birthdays for the day since people have different interests. My biggest memory of it was when I did my Roaring Twenties project on the Black Sox Scandal. It was so much fun!
- When I did science class, it was so much fun! I did an egg drop, where mine survived. I enjoyed learning so much from it that I can't remember a lot from it! One time, my teacher in the class, Mrs. Clark, was away from school for a while. When she came back, she explained what happened in the first place.
- I did four related arts classes. The first two were Musical Theater and Show Choir, both of which I did with Ms. Kalway in the same room I took my math class in. In the former, I did a musical on the 1992 movie Newsies which was enjoyable! In the latter, I sang songs from various artists which was exciting! The third one was a photography class where I ended up taking pictures around the area I live. I remember how my classmate, Lucy Weyhrich helped me a lot! She and I are still friends to this day! The fourth and final one I did was 2D Art! It was so much fun!
- I did a health class in a different classroom than in seventh grade during one of the quarters in gym class which I learned a lot from! Annie Kim was present with me during each period except periods one and five. In the other three quarters where I did gym class, it was so much fun! Among the things I did were rock climbing, lifting weights, working out on a bike machine, doing fitness, and playing basketball, among other things. At the end of the year, I chose to give my gym uniform away.
- Unlike seventh grade where I only went on one field trip which was when I walked to Lovelace Park at the end of the year for activities, I went on more than one field trip in eighth grade. It reminded me of how I went on several field trips in both school years at Highcrest.
- I took a tour of the Northfield Campus at New Trier for while having lunch there in preparation for my freshman year at New Trier! It was my first time around New Trier in several years which I enjoyed!
- I went on a field trip to the Holocaust Museum and I learned a lot from it! It was the first time I ever visited it. I even got to meet Holocaust survivors where me and other students passed a picture around.
- I went on a science field trip in the Skokie Lagoons which I enjoyed in the bad weather while feeling congested. I liked walking around the areas.
- At the end of the year on June 6, I went on a field trip to Six Flags! It was so much fun! I used the bumper cars, rode a Batman indoor coaster, rode multiple roller coasters, went on several carnival rides, did other activities there and had lunch there where I used a wallet for the first time. It was so tiring for me that I fell asleep on the couch when I got home.
- On June 9, I did graduation rehearsal at the Winnetka Campus which I hadn't visited in forever. It started out in the fieldhouse and then in the Gates Gym. After that, I returned to WJHS so my father could pick me up. The next day, I had a half-day at WJHS which was the last time I was at the school. Later that day, I came back to the Winnetka Campus for graduation. I remember seeing Ms. Kirby, my math teacher as I went into the Gates Gym. It was easy for me despite the rain. After that, I returned home and continued playing the GameCube game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door which I'd been playing earlier.
